We live in a day where social media, the internet, and the simple task of going to and from school or work can all provide exposure to a plethora of issues and life circumstances. It can be easy to gravitate towards what is deemed popular even if it harvests pejorative behavior. With so many options to consider, there is an urgent and constant need for prominent positive voices and examples to promote and cultivate what is honorable, decent and just plain old right. For every twerk, someone needs to teach. For every criticism, someone needs to care. For every state of low self-esteem, someone needs to stimulate. For every trauma, someone is needed for others to trust. For every problem, someone needs to promptly pray. The issues are all there… and Karen & Kierra are two of the most genuine, impacting “someones” you will ever meet.
Dr. Karen Clark Sheard and Kierra Sheard are globally known as probably the most gifted, uber-stylish and totally charismatic mother and daughter unit in Gospel music. If you have any interaction with both, it is strikingly apparent that the apple has not fallen far from the tree in terms of beauty, talent, intelligence, savoir faire, and love for God and His people. They are two extremely relevant voices that have zealously answered the call to positively impact the world; and it’s a “Sheard Shakeup” that encompasses all generations while igniting God’s Light and dismantling the kingdom of darkness. Whether it is a persuasive preached lesson or the powerful delivery of one of their numerous Award-winning Gospel hits, their message is heard loud and clear – God reigns; and not only do we have access to His power, but are obligated to use it to make an impact. And making an impact for others is what they do, indeed.
Karen is the Grammy Award-winning wife of Bishop J. Drew Sheard who pastors Greater Emmanuel Institutional COGIC in Detroit, Michigan. When she’s not serving at her local church training women, counseling members and giving hope and support to the disenfranchised, she is traveling the globe singing with her sisters, doing solo Gospel concerts, or preaching. A trail saturated with love is left in every path she creates and her compassion for others draws fans and friends from near and far. Seeing her innate demonstration of pure love, patience and kindness constantly extended is fascinating, especially in an industry where people will compromise Godly character to appear important, be on top, or stand in front. Lady Karen rests comfortably in who she truly is: a rare diamond with laudable charm.
