This week’s topic: The Wisdom Of God
When it comes to worship, are we really giving God what he desires and wants? Believe it or not, receive it or not, God does evaluate and judge our offering of worship. There’s worship that he accepts and receives, and worship that’s unacceptable and not receivable as well. We were created to worship him, and we reach our fullest and highest potential of it when we become the kind of worshiper that he desires and wants. One who offers acceptable worship unto him that comes from the heart. We have to realize like David did, that the attitude of our heart will make the difference in our worship, and continually ask God for a “search”. Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life. (Psalm 139:23-24, NLT).
Often when we come before him to worship, we know how to do it. Prayer, the lifting of hands, singing of songs, bowing down on our knees and all of that, assuming that God is receiving and accepting it. You will find this was going on big time in the book of the prophet Isaiah. They were going through the motions, but still doing things on the side. “We’re giving him his worship anyway, he shouldn’t mind!” God did mind and told them, “I am sick of your sacrifices,” says the LORD. “Don’t bring me any more burnt offerings! I don’t want the fat from your rams or other animals. I don’t want to see the blood from your offerings of bulls and rams and goats.” (Isaiah 1:11, NLT). Why did God reject their worship? Because it wasn’t coming from their hearts! And so the Lord says, “These people say they are mine. They honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far away. And their worship of me amounts to nothing more than human laws learned by rote.” (Isaiah 29:13, NLT).
As worshipers of the Lord today, we have to remember that the worship that he desires and accepts from his people, is from the heart. If your heart loves and adores the Lord supremely, worship to and for him will flow and pour out of it exclusively and extremely, and it will become the style of your life. It won’t be rejected, but accepted! He’s looking for people who will put the “spotlight” on him and not themselves or anything else!
