Improvements of police and community relations will start this spring.
April 1 the Columbus Police Department kicks off Safe Streets Program.
The program will use bike officers to “focus on improving community-police relations, promoting safe neighborhoods, and addressing violent crime trends,” according to NBC4i. The program will be present in Linden, Hilltop, and Southside neighborhoods.
“As I get more invested in the community, it has been a rewarding experience,“ Columbus Police Officer, Shawn Lutz Lutz said. “It’s talked about from an academic perspective but you don’t get to experience it until you go out into the community and make that connection.“
The Safe Streets program will comprise 30 officers, six sergeants, and one lieutenant.
