If you live in the Reynoldsburg area, precautions are being made to ensure your safety. According to Fox 28, Reynoldsburg police are upping security measures near a popular shopping mall. In the past, Taylor Square has been a hot spot for crime.

“We are working with Homeland Security, they have these observation towers that allows a police officer to have an elevated position above the parking lot,” said Lt. Ron Wright.

An observation tower was installed in the parking lot that overlooks the square Friday night.

“We want to encourage people to come and shop in the city of Reynoldsburg,” said Wright. “So, we’re trying to make them feel safe and make sure the police presence is very visible to show that there would be thieves to go somewhere else.”

Shoppers like Nancy Armstrong said they’re happy police are taking the initiative.

“Actually, it makes me feel a lot safer,” said Armstrong.

Police are also increasing patrols and undercover officers are expected to monitor the area.

“I think that would be a great idea,” said Armstrong. “Especially for the safety of the community and people who come to shop here.”

The observation towers aren’t the only safety measures police have taken. Just last week, there was a sting operation in the same area that led to several arrests.

Police have one message for thieves, don’t come to Reynoldsburg.
