The only black juror in the Walter Scott trial has finally opened up to The Today Show. The juror, Dorsey Montgomery II, talks about what lead to the jury not able to come to an unanimous decision, resulting in a mistrial and allowing Scott’s killer, former cop Michael Slager, to walk away a free man.

It may seem surprising for some to hear Montgomery say that the jury’s views on race didn’t play a role in the mistrial. We will never fully understand how the one juror could not find Slager guilty for wrongfully killing an unarmed man. As the Scott family continuing their fight for justice, Montgomery agrees with the family and believes justice will be served on the day in the future.
