Big Lots fans reunite! Several central Ohio Big Lots locations may remain open under new ownership following the retailer’s bankruptcy. North Carolina-based discount chain operator, Variety Wholesalers, is set to acquire 27 Ohio Big Lots stores, including four in the Columbus area.

According to court documents filed Monday, Variety will assume control of the Big Lots locations at 2837 Winchester Pike, 3961 Hoover Road, 6300 E. Livingston Avenue, and 1700 E. Main Street. The company is also acquiring two Big Lots distribution centers as part of the deal.

Gordon Brothers Retail Partners, who purchased Big Lots in January, facilitated the switch-off with a $200 million loan and a $150 million “debtor-in-possession” term loan. Variety will have the option to keep Big Lots employees at the stores, distribution centers, and certain corporate positions.

Meanwhile, the fate of hundreds of other Big Lots locations is still unclear. Gordon Brothers has listed more than 500 stores for sale, including six Columbus locations.

Big Lots previously announced mass layoffs at its Westerville headquarters, with job cuts expected to be finished by April. This follows the company’s decision to liquidate its stores after failing to secure a $765 million sale to Nexus Capital Management.

Once operating more than 1,400 stores nationwide, Big Lots has already closed over 500 locations since filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in September.
