A CPD officer has received a written reprimand when their M-16 rifle was stolen from his unmarked cruiser.

According to 10TV

“Police bosses say the officer received a written reprimand for leaving the weapon exposed behind the driver’s seat, even though the officer said he attempted to hide the rifle with items in the cruiser.

The incident happened two weeks ago when the Community Response Team officer went into a restaurant on west Broad Street. Surveillance cameras show the suspect’s gold Chevy S-10 pull up next to the undercover officer’s unmarked SUV. The thieves broke out the window and stole a handgun, two bullet proof vests, and an M16 rifle.

Police say they still haven’t recovered the rifle.”
