At a time when relationships among law enforcement officers across America and African-American communities are tense, a Gospel artist is showing the positive side of things.
GRAMMY® Award-winning artist, Kirk Franklin, posed for a picture with an unnamed police officer and posted it on Instagram.
“He asked if he could take a picture with me, then I asked if I could take a picture with him,” the “Wanna Be Happy?” songwriter captioned the photograph, ending with the hashtag, “#thankyou,” expressing appreciation for the work of good police.
A day earlier, the 46-year-old vented his frustration over the killing of three police officers in Baton Rouge.
“So how does this fix the problem? How does this create an environment for dialog that heals?” he questioned after a former Marine shot and killed the officers less than two weeks after Anton Sterling was fatally shot by police there in a confrontation that sparked nightly protests that reverberated nationwide.
Franklin said of the murders, “This is a crime, a sin, and an act of terrorism. MY GOD! You cannot justify EITHER! That black man or that white officer need the same protection!”
