RICHLAND COUNTY, OH (WOIO) – National Weather Service officials confirmed an EF-2 tornado hit the the city of Shelby Sunday afternoon.

National Weather Service officials added the violent tornado had wind speeds of 120-125 mph and was a 1/2 mile wide.

Police and city officials held a news conference Monday and stated the tornado damaged a 17-mile stretch of land in the city of Shelby and Sharon and Jackson Townships.

According to city officials, a total of 30 structures were damaged in Shelby and Sharon and Jackson Townships.

The Red Cross representative also said they are driving around the area offering assistance for first responders and families.

The tornado left dozens of utility poles leveled, with varying degrees of damage across residencies.
