Are you ready for some arena league football? Well, the Columbus Destroyers are back! According the Fox 28, the team is also keeping the old logo, but with a new black, silver and white color scheme.

The team’s six home games will be played this spring.  Matt Sauk, a former AFL quarterback and assistant, will be the team’s new head coach. Sauk said he wanted his team to have plenty of ties to the Buckeyes.

“I want to get guys from Ohio whether they played in a different team or whatever,” Sauk said. “I want guys that understand Ohio and understand the passion fans are going to bring.”

Arena Football is played indoors on a 50 yard field. League executives said it’s fast-paced and high-scoring.

The first home game will be May 18th at Nationwide Arena. The team will also be holding open tryouts for anyone who thinks they can make it. Jaworski said 4-5 players on the team will likely be walk-ons from that tryout.

Dates for the home games included:

  • Saturday 5/18 vs. Albany
  • Saturday 5/25 vs. Washington
  • Friday 6/7 vs. Atlantic City
  • Saturday 6/15 vs. Baltimore
  • Saturday 6/22 vs. Philadelphia
  • Sunday 7/14 vs. Albany
