Kicking off this week, restaurants in the Short North have partnered with the Children’s Hunger Alliance to aid in eliminating childhood hunger in our community. Over a dozen restaurants in the Short North Arts District are participating in the cause.

Research shows that more than one in five children in Ohio live in households that are food deficient and struggle with hunger. Children’s Hunger Alliance is committed to ending childhood hunger — starting with improving nutrition for our youngest and most vulnerable through healthier meals served in childcare settings; enabling academic success with school breakfast and after school meals; and fueling health year-round with summer meals and nutrition education.

President and CEO of Children’s Hunger Alliance, Judy Mobley said, “[It is an opportunity] for people who are fortunate, who can go out to dinner at one of these great restaurants in that area, to think about kids who really need their help.”

If you would like to participate in this cause and receive 5% off your bill at one of the participating restaurants, text FOOD4KIDS to 7412. You must follow the link from that text reply to make a donation and then show your donation receipt to your server.

The Short North restaurants that are involved are as follows:

  • Basi Italia
  • Belgian Iron Wafel Co.
  • Brassica
  • Condado Tacos
  • Donatos
  • Hai Poké
  • Harvey & Ed’s
  • Marcella’s
  • Martini
  • Melt
  • The Guild House
  • The Lox Bagel Shop
  • The Pearl
  • The Table

Any donations big or small will be greatly appreciated.

“We, fortunately, help kids at after-school programs. Sometimes that’s the last meal that they’ll have of the day. We also help kids in the summer when they’re used to having school breakfast and lunch, and then, in the summer they lose that security,” Mobley said.

The partnership with the Short North Arts District will run from February 20-27. They also are shining a light on Children’s Hunger Alliance’s 24th Annual Menu of Hope luncheon. The event is taking place Monday, February 25, 2019. The Menu of Hope luncheon comes together to unite people to aid in ending childhood hunger.
