According to Fox 28, Columbus City Schools hosted their Super Reader Academy at seven different schools across the district on Saturday. The event provided second and third graders extra time and support to improve reading skills.

At Africentric Early College, about 125 students participated. The school’s principal says it’s a great way to get students ready for state testing as well.

“It’s really to push our kids to the next level in reading and make sure that our third graders are ready to pass the test and our second graders are really closing the gap during the school year as well too.” said Tyree Pollard, Africentric’s Elementary Pre-K Principal.

The event was free, the district even provided food and transportation for the students.

The district will be hosting this event every Saturday until March 16. For more information on the “Super Reader” reading academy, click here
