The Ohio State Buckeyes men basketball team continues to struggle, dropping their fifth straight game in a 79-67 loss Wednesday night to Purdue at Value City Arena.
The Boilermarkers, who were led by 27 points from Carsen Edwards, were able to hold off a late surge from the Buckeyes for their fourth straight win and seven of the last eight.
The Buckeyes, winless in 2019, is riding their longest losing streak in 20 years. They were led by Andre Wesson, who had a career-high 22 points on 9-for-10 shooting from the floor and a half court buzzer beater to end the first half.
The Buckeyes also honored Purdue superfan, Tyler Trent, who lost his battle to cancer earlier this month. Players, coaches and attendees participated in a moment of silence for Tyler Trent before the game as his picture was shown on the scoreboard above the court and sign with the phrase ‘We are #TylerStrong”.
Purdue started the game 1 for 8 from the field as Ohio State built a 17-8 lead. But the Buckeyes got sloppy, watching the Boilermakers go on a 22-1 run that included 3-pointers from Eifert and Eric Hunter Jr. and a pair of 3-point bombs from Cline.
Head coach Chris Holtmann knew this type of adversity would come with this group and he continues to work with what he has and develop this bunch into a solid team. The lost of sophomore Kyle Young last week did take a lot from the Buckeyes scoring wise so they have to figure that out quick because the schedule doesn’t get any easier in February.
The Buckeyes are back in action Saturday at Nebraska.
