According to Fox 28, quick work by firefighters on Sunday morning saved a woman from more serious injury, after a chair she was sitting in ignited in flame and she was unable to escape.
The woman, who lives with her brother on East Weber Road in North Linden, was taken to OSU Wexner Medical Center with burns, but was expected to survive her injuries.
Columbus Division of Fire battallion chief Rick Artrip said that firefighters have visited the home before to help the woman move around or stand up. After something started her upholstered chair on fire early Sunday, she was unable to move up and away from the chair, resulting in the burns over her body.
The woman’s brother, who declined to give his name, told ABC 6/FOX 28 that he tried to pour water on her, but was quickly overcome by smoke and had to leave. The brother believes his sister had a lighted candle next to her and inadvertently knocked it over, igniting the flames.
Investigators with the Columbus Division of Fire remained on scene Sunday morning to determine the exact cause.
