Independence High School, Lincoln Park Elementary School, South High School, Livingston Elementary School, Highland Elementary School and West Broad Elementary School all have one thing in common.
No sidewalk.
Students have been walking in the streets to get into the school and can be a hazard, especially during heavy traffic hours. For 2018 the budget is proposed at $1 billion with $2.5 million just for the schools listed above.
A group of students suggested memorials for pedestrian who have been hit along these roads due to the busy streets and gaps between the sidewalks. The need for sidewalks are very important for the safety of the many students who transport to school via walking.
