For those who may not know, Lacks is a black woman whose cervical cancer cells were used without her knowledge for research that ended up revolutionizing modern day medicine. She died at the early age of 31 but her cells lived on to be used for cures for diseases such as polio to cutting-edge medicine for cancer, HIV/AIDS, and gene mapping research done around the world.

Via Hello Beautiful:

The film is based off the 2010 New York Times bestseller book The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, written by Rebecca Skloot.
