Antoinette Tuff talked a gunman into surrendering to police in Dekalb County, Ga., in 2013, stopping a shooting at Ronald E. McNair Discovery Learning Center. On Thursday night in Dallas, she excitedly walked a red carpet into a preview screening of a movie based on the events of that day, Faith Under Fire: The Antoinette Tuff Story.

Since then, she has founded a mentoring program: Kids on the Move for Success.

Tuff said she wants people to know that “it takes one person to be able to say I can change a village.” And she’s excited about the actress portraying her in the made-for-TV film: Toni Braxton.
