DeVon Franklin is a New York Times best-selling author, preacher, spiritual success coach, and one of the highest ranking African-American executives in Hollywood. He’s the executive producer of the new animated faith-based film, “The Star.” He talks about where the inspiration to get into animation came from, noting that “The Star” is the first animated CGI film that is a story of faith from a major studio in Hollywood. DeVon explains why the movie’s “just OK” success from a box office standpoint (opening at number 6) is still a win on the ministry level.

But still, “Hollywood honors what happens at the box office,” he explains, and a movie’s success also depends on what the audience decides to do. DeVon also explains why the biggest challenge of faith in Hollywood, is not because of Hollywood itself, but keeping your faith when you haven’t yet seen the fruits of your labor. DeVon also reveals how he got such a star-studded cast together for the film, whose names include Oprah, Tracy Morgan and Tyler Perry.
