We have the first official trailer for “Mary Magdalene” starring Hollywood couple, Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix.
Rooney Mara stars as Mary Magdalene, and Phoenix as Jesus, in the biblical movie. The film chronicles Jesus’ story through the view of Magdalene, who has long been at the center of religious controversy.
In the trailer, Magdalene is seen meeting and joining Jesus on his mission to spread the word of God.
The film paints a portrait of Magdalene, a Biblical figure slandered as a harlot and deviant. Through her relationship with Jesus, she becomes a prominent figure of a new movement that has risen around his teachings. She also seems to become a pseudo-social warrior for women within the religion.
“Are we [women] so different from men you must teach us different things?” she asks of her male counterparts.
