FAIRFIELD COUNTY
Two inmates escaped the Fairfield County Jail Tuesday night, according to the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say John H. Richards Jr., and Matthew D. Scurlock escaped the booking area of the jail sometime around 10:15 p.m. The two somehow pried their cell door open and fled.
Richards was captured by the Lancaster Police Department around 10:45 p.m. in the area of S. Maple Street and Canal Street in the city of Lancaster.
Deputies later caught Scurlock after searching for him for several hours.
