One of the trailblazers of self identifying is back in the news. The former NAACP Chapter President, Rachel Dolezal, was found as one of the cast members in a documentary, “Subjects to Desire”. This is a beauty empowerment documentary with a mission to inform the viewers of diverse beauty. Since that is their mission, you could argue that casting Rachel was a perfect fit. You do not get any more diverse than a biological white woman that has identified as a black woman, who now braids hair for a living. The backlash from the white and black communities knock Rachel down pretty hard. She said, “I’ve been called an insult to white women and an insult to Black women. White women are angry because I did what they never would do and went further, like I put 110. I didn’t just be that white ally and do a little bit, I canceled my white privilege. I canceled my hair.” You can read more about Rachel’s emergence here.
