Columbus Police says approximately 100,000 cruiser video files were inadvertently deleted.

In a press release sent Tuesday, Columbus Police said the Columbus Police Technical Services Bureau recently became aware of a potential mass deletion of cruiser video footage dating back to 2015.

The Columbus Division of Police Technical Services Bureau says they are working closely with the city’s Department of Technology on solutions and a possible recovery of the video files.

Columbus Police Chief Kim Jacobs said a veteran officer in the technical bureau was changing the classification of certain video instead of the video being saved under new groupings.

As a result, the system purged it. The chief said it was mostly video from 2015 and less than 2,000 pieces from 2016.
