A local man has been charged with a hate crime after spray painting an anti-Islamic message on the Perry Township mosque.

The Franklin County Grand Jury indicted 44-year-old Todd Williams for his involvement in the vandalism of Ahlul-Bayt Society-Islamic Center on February 11. Williams was also indicted for desecration, ethnic intimidation, and criminal mischief.

10TV showed pictures of the message sprayed painted on the front doors of the mosque. “Allah Is A Fraud Dum Dums” on the left door window and “Repent Turn To True God + Jesus Or Burn 4 Ever” on the right door window.

Mumtaz Ali is the Iman of the mosque and said that the vandalism is “misguided.”

“We feel sorry for this person who write this thing on our door,” he said. “If he is an individual and there is no group behind him we are ready to forgive him and we are ready to help him by any way by any means he need the help.”

“This case is another example of the collaborative effort between the U.S. Attorney and our office. Here the message being sent is loud and clear–that Hate Crimes based on religious intolerance will be fully prosecuted,” Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien said.
