At the New Year’s Lunch of Assemblee Speakers Bureau at Hotel La Butte aux Bois in Lanaken, American actor REGGIE BROWN made an appearance as the 44th President of the United States, much to the astonishment of the group of luminaries gathered there, which included Honorary Consul-General of Japan (Belgium) Piet Steel, former Dutch Chief of Defence Peter van Uhm, Executive Commander of the Royal Dutch Army Lt. General Mart de Kruif, former Dutch Prime Minister Dries van Agt, Minister of State Hans van den Broek, and former Dutch Minister Gerd Leers.
Chicago native Reggie Brown has made a career out of playing the role of President Obama on stage, as well as in film and television. He now delivers his keynote speech all over the world. It was his first performance in Europe on invitation of Maurice van der Kant, managing director of Assemblee Speakers Bureau representing him for Europe.
There was complete confusion among the many renowned guests attending the lunch when the leader of the free world suddenly entered La Butte aux Bois restaurant under heavy protection during the yearly New Year’s speech of Assemblee’s founder Leo van der Kant.
“I have experienced a lot in my life,” says Leo van der Kant, who in the past has invited the presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, among others, to Europe to give a speech. “But there was incredible astonishment in the room when the personage of Barack Obama paid a call on them. My guests are used to many things, but this topped it all. A surprising start to the new year.”
