Sad news for residents of Remington Station Apartments as they watch a fire destroy their home.

The fire department was called to the scene in the 5000 block of Buffalo Run Wednesday afternoon. Just in time as 10 units full of residents escape safely and no one was injured.

Reports state that two residents “went door-to-door alerting people after they saw smoke coming from one of the unit’s chimneys.” One resident says he may know what cause the fire.

“They were burning their Christmas tree in the fireplace and that seems to be what started it all,” resident Tony Garnon said.

Investigators said they’re focusing on the Christmas tree as the cause, but they’re not ready to release an official cause.

Firefighters say 19 adults and 15 children are now displaced from their homes. The estimate of damages is around $2 million.

An employee of the Remington Station Apartments said they are already working replace the residents in vacant apartment units. The Red Cross is also helping out.
