Interstate 75 is about to become a major headache just in time for one of Cincinnati’s biggest weekends of the year.

As tens of thousands of fans head Downtown for the Cincinnati Music Festival, both directions of I-75 will be reduced to a single lane. The lane closures start Friday night and will last the entire weekend.

The changes are part of the ongoing $650 million Mill Creek Expressway project to widen and reconstruct this stretch of highway. Here’s what drivers need to know:

  • Friday at 8PM: I-75 will go down to two lanes in both directions.
  • Friday at 11PM through Monday at 6AM: Only one lane will remain open in each direction.
  • Ramp closures: Ramps from Ronald Reagan Highway (east and westbound) to southbound I-75 and from Galbraith Road to southbound I-75 will also close from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.

ODOT officials are warning of major delays and encouraging travelers to detour using I-71, I-275, I-74, or the Norwood Lateral. Surface streets like Reading Road, Vine Street, and Hamilton Avenue can also offer faster travel.

The closure was originally planned for mid-July but was pushed back by the contractor.

With more than 80,000 attendees expected for the Cincinnati Music Festival, expect heavy congestion. Give yourself extra time and plan ahead.
