Motorcyclist Recovered from Ohio River After Bridge Crash

The body of a 23-year-old motorcyclist who plunged into the Ohio River after a crash on the Taylor Southgate Bridge Saturday has been recovered, officials confirmed.
Boone County Water Rescue located the man’s body around 5:40PM Monday, about 100 yards from the Roebling Suspension Bridge and 300 feet from the Cincinnati shoreline. His body was transported to the Campbell County Coroner’s Office.
Authorities say the motorcyclist was traveling north across the bridge when he struck another vehicle and was thrown over the side into the water. Officials and family members have chosen not to release his name publicly at this time.
The crash sparked a search effort that stretched over two days. Crews from multiple agencies used sonar equipment and patrolled the area both day and night. They say the debris in the river complicated the recovery.
On Saturday, two witnesses jumped into the water in an attempt to save the man. One was rescued by Boone County Water Rescue; the other was pulled from the water by a passing boater.
Tino Barbosa, a close family friend who referred to himself as the man’s uncle, said the victim was a Cincinnati resident who worked at a local Mexican restaurant, describing him as “young, energetic, outgoing, and gentle”. Barbosa said the family just wanted to bring him home.
“All his friends, everybody has been there, trying to help, trying to be supportive,” he said. “We know, of course, he’s not going to be alive. But at least we can find him so his father can give him a proper funeral.”
The crash led to a five-hour shutdown of the Taylor Southgate Bridge on Saturday night as police and emergency responders investigated. Authorities say the motorcyclist’s family was informed of his identity and the circumstances surrounding the crash on Sunday evening.
Barbosa said the community can help the family by simply offering prayers, support and good energy as they grieve.
