After serving as Washington, D.C.’s Police Chief for almost 10 years and serving on the force for 26 years, Chief Cathy Lanier is stepping down, but before doing that she stepped on to the pitcher’s mound at National’s Park to deliver the game ball to the National’s starting picture Max Scherzer against the Atlanta Braves.  She passed the honor of throwing the first pitch to one of the victims, Jaydan Stancil, who survived being hit in the head with a stray bullet in Northeast D.C. in October 2014 when he was 9 years old.

Chief Cathy Lanier will retire from her post on September 17 and will join the National Football League as the Senior Vice President of Security.

Chief Lanier was joined on the field by her family, and some victims of crimes in D.C.

She also received a bat signed by all the players of the Washington National’s before handing off the game ball to pitcher Max Scherzer.

By the way, at the end of the day, the Nationals beat the Atlanta Braves 6-4.
